Karl Thoreson
Research Assistant
Karl is pursuing his MS in Global Health at Duke University. Originally from Seattle, Washington, he has spent a significant time abroad—including living on a sailboat in the Caribbean as a child, graduating from high school in Mexico, and volunteering in various countries. Diven by an array of diverse experiences he appreciates creative problem solving and is ambitious to rise to the challenge of creating better opportunities and outcomes for all.
Prior to Duke, Karl attended the University of Washington and worked in the Bioengineering Department as a Research Scientist/Engineer. Karl is also a veteran who served almost a decade between Army Infantry and Special Operations; during which he also attended the University of North Carolina at Pembroke where he received a BA in Sociology. In his free time, Karl and his wife Erica enjoy traveling, scuba diving, skydiving, and spending time with their two rescue cats.
